Why do we love our candles?

We all know that a scented candle is a truly beautiful fragrant luxury, bringing with it a peaceful moment as you light it and a moment of joy at the end of the day. So.... why do we love our candles so much?

1. Candlelight promotes focus

Tibetan monks light candles in their temples and keep at least two large ones burning as they meditate.  In many cultures around the world candlelight is significant as a symbol of focus and enlightenment. Light everywhere is also the symbol of joy and of life-giving power.

Because candlelight is gentle, not overwhelming on the eyes, like sunlight, lighting a candle in a dark room makes shadows and angles more gentle, thanks to the warm softness of a candle flame. Your mind is able to focus and concentrate better as a result - and when you stare into a flame this is a lovely way to be calm and meditate.

 2. Candles nourish the environment

A natural plant wax derived candle releases no toxins into the atmosphere. Be a conscious candle-lover!

 3. Scent is connected to memory

The most powerful of our five senses comes from our limbic system - scent. Many smells are connected to our memories, and choosing aromas you love can connect you better to yourself and the things that make you happy. Revisit the best parts of you with your favourite scents.

 4. Your mood can change based on scent

Not only is your sense of smell connected to memory, it’s connected to your emotional receptors as well. Certain aromas tend to promote positive emotions in everyone - scents like lavender and rose stimulate a sense of calm where lemon and orange are uplifting. Sandalwood can be very grounding and sensual.

5. Candles express your personality

Choosing your own candle expresses something about you. An aromatic beautiful candle will accentuate any room and help create an atmosphere. Whether you love flowery scents, woody scents, or something in between, lighting a scented candle marks your space as your own and engages you with your spirit.
